Hi, I’m Kevin — founder of NexGen Hydroponics Academy, passionate grower, educator, and firm believer that anyone can grow fresh, healthy food at home… no soil required.

My journey into hydroponics and aquaponics started the old-fashioned way — with a bit of curiosity and a lot of trial and error.

Years ago, I set up my first aquaponics system using a simple half-barrel ebb and flow setup connected to an old fish pond. I knew very little about soilless gardening back then (and had never even heard of "cycling" the system!). Luckily, the pond already had an established bacteria colony, and nature quietly did her work.

Eager to see what would happen, I planted a papaya tree in the barrel, and planted a few others in soil as a comparison.

The difference blew me away.
The tree in the aquaponics system exploded with growth, outpacing the soil-grown trees so much that we harvested fruit long before the others even started to flower.
The papaya grew so vigorously that I eventually had to prop it up to support its weight — a happy “problem” I hadn’t anticipated!

That experience lit a fire in me — proof that when done right, soilless growing isn’t just possible… It’s powerful.

Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to learning, refining, and sharing the best of hydroponics and aquaponics with others.
